Easter Sewing Session for Kids

We saw plenty of Cranbrook's children hopping along to our Easter craft session which was in collaboration with EX5 Alive.

We collaborated with the local Family Hub by facilitating an older kids craft, or so we thought. The initial idea was to use sustainably sourced fabrics along with proper needles and thread to teach children 7+ how to sew a simple running stitch. But what happened next took us by surprise!

Not only did the younger ones want to do some sewing (one was as little as 4 years old and was really getting the hang of sewing independently) but the carers were getting involved too. With other exciting activities on to occupy the little ones, we found that grown ups were really enjoying some peace and quiet while picking up a needle and thread.
"I don't remember the last time I did any crafting" one parent said. "If you enjoy sewing then I will get my sewing machine out of storage when we get home" said another parent to her child. It was fantastic to be able to reintroduce this skill to adults who can share it with their children.

In addition to our Easter Sewing Sessions for Kids, we also held a workshop at the Easter Fun Day at Cranbrook Education Campus. Again we sewed lots of plushie bunnies and saw dozens of children pick up a needle and thread (along with quite a few Dads too). While we were sharing our sewing skills, we also spent some time surveying locals in Cranbrook and the surrounding areas. We asked people what sort of activities they would like to see in our local area and which would be most popular.
We sectioned our initial thoughts into three main age categories, Adult, Childrens and Teens. While some of the suggestions overlapped all ages, we found that there were 5 main offerings that stood out above the rest.

Nature Craft Workshops for Kids
Zine and Embroidery Sessions for Teens
Adult Creativity Sessions with Play Area for children
Kids Sewing Sessions
Adult and Children Craft Sessions
We have already started planning our Sip and Stitch Adult Workshops and our Nature Craft Workshops (sign up to our newsletter here to find out more) as well as an upcoming Curry and Quiz night. BUT we want to provide so much more for our local area! We want to infuse culture and creativity into Cranbrook and become a hive of creative community. We would love to hear your thoughts on what you would like to see in our area so do drop us a line at cranbrookcreativecircle@gmail.com .
